I'm curious how many of you use any noise removal options with your rendering. For those less familiar the notion is to use lower settings for render quality and then applying de-noising. Noise and grain removal has existed for decades in After Effects and Photoshop, but the processing usually yielded a degraded picture, often blurred and unnatural. In recent years there are some new options: -Neat Video -Red Giant's Denoiser III -BCC Noise Reduction -Improved native AE denoising Generally speaking these plugins are designed to attack the type of noise you might get from low-light level photography or videography. Of even greater interest for 3d rendered stills and animations are products designed more for the task at hand: filtering that attacks render noise and fireflies. One program getting a lot of hype is Altus from Innobright. Seems a bit pricey and the company goes with the dreaded subscription-only approach.

VRAY now has a built-in denoiser. I haven't yet had a play. I'm curious who here may have tried any of these? Hey grain.I notice there is a big thread on the Otoy (Octane) web site on de-noising. The company is planning on helping w/a better pipeline to integrate easier integration with Altus. I don't know what that will look like. The biggest hurdle for me with them is the pricing model.
Noise Reduction Picture Quality
$300 might be OK.but all that buys one is a one-year subscription. Maybe the best bet is to buy a monthly subscription ($33) during a big project. However, I don't know how easy one can do a limited one-month subscription w/out longterm obligation or high-fuss cancellation.
