Blue's Birthday Adventure Developer: Publisher: Platforms:, Released in US: 1998 This game has unused graphics. This game has unused cinematics. This game has unused text. A game based on the popular kids show Blue's Clues. The world is stuck in an infinite time loop, making every day Blue's birthday.

The cruel mistress forces you to assist her unwitting accomplice in a game that will unlock the answer to the riddle of what is being served at the later party, what activities will occur, what other game will be played, and what the captive attendees will get as thanks for coming. It's so huge, it takes two discs to cover. Unused Subtitles Like most Humongous Entertainment games, this game features subtitles, but with no way to turn them on. They can be enabled through ScummVM's debugger or by adding the line TextOn=1 to the game's entry in hegames.ini or scummvm.ini. However, they seem to be incomplete, as they only appear during the sign-in and path select screens. In the sign-in screen, the subtitles will be the same color as the player's set favorite color.

Unused Clickpoint. To do: See if anyone can get rid of that mess behind the textures. Rooms 16 and 19 have hidden textures that are obscured by the inventory bar. They can be viewed by opening the ScummVM debugger (Ctrl+D) while in a room without the inventory bar and entering the commands 'room 16' or 'room 19'. Room 16 (for the Yellow Disc, room number for Red Disc is unknown) has Magenta and Snail behind the inventory bar. Seems fitting for Snail to be there, since she's always hiding somewhere in the show.

Room 19 (both discs) has the textures for Mr. Pepper, and Paprika.

Also behind the inventory bar are the textures for the keys, which are used in the 'What Game Does Blue Want to Play?' The series Windows Blue's Birthday Adventure.

Adventure

(Humongous Entertainment; $29.99; Macintosh Power PC, System 7.1 or later, and Windows 95 and 98; ages 3 to 6.) ALL the genius of 'Blue's Clues,' the much acclaimed preschool television program, has made its way into this clever think-along CD-ROM. Children help the dog named Blue and her owner, Steve - our human guide through a cut-paper landscape - prepare for Blue's birthday party: What does Blue want to give her guests? What does she want to eat? Each question is a problem to be solved by finding three clues, each marked by - what else - a blue paw print. Children work through nine activities, each of which can be set to a different skill level. Although only one child at a time is the designated 'player,' the reality is more accommodating. Other youngsters can join in as a kind of reason-aloud team.

Parents know this is child-wise territory when a voice asks the player to sign in, typing the child's name, birth date and favorite color, and the information typed in is read aloud by kids' voices. The player's name will appear throughout the session on refrigerator magnets, gift tags and birthday cards.

And Steve speaks and gestures directly to the players, all but breaking through the screen. Advertisement As you might suspect, finding clues is not as simple as it sounds, at least not at the most advanced of the three levels of play. Two 5-year-olds kept one intermediate game going for more than an hour.

Side trips include helping two other characters named Mr. Salt and Mrs. Pepper measure, mix and bake a birthday cake. The youngest players will need help here.

Changing the level of difficulty creates a new playing field for each activity. But solutions and clues stay the same, which suggests there will be a limit - however distant - to a child's eagerness to play Blue's Clues.
